“From Erasure to Empowerment. This is Our Story.”
The Banjaras: Carriers of Civilisation
For centuries, the Banjaras were the lifeline of India. Nomadic traders, salt carriers, transporters, and warriors — their caravans connected kingdoms, deserts, and ports. They shaped economies and cultures, carrying goods and stories across the subcontinent.
But history books rarely told their story. Until now.

The Wound of Colonial Rule
In 1871, the British passed the Criminal Tribes Act, branding Banjaras and 200 other tribes as “hereditary criminals.” Entire communities were forced to report to police stations, their movement restricted, their dignity stolen.
Yet, even in oppression, they resisted:
Champla Nayak built hostels to educate Banjara youth.
Govind Guru led the Bhil-Banjara resistance, martyred with 1500+ followers at the Mangarh Massacre (1913).
Banjara men and women stood with Gandhi in the freedom movement — donating jewelry, funds, and courage.
Their sacrifices became the silent foundation of India’s independence.
Sant Sevalal Maharaj – The Spiritual Guide
For many years, the Banjara people traveled across deserts, built trade routes, and even fought for India’s freedom. But during British rule, they were unfairly called criminals.
